When i searched decision making models, many came up. I chose to learn more about the seven step decision making model and the nine step decision making model. The seven step decision making model is designed to identify the frame of the decision. The steps include 1. identify the decision to be made 2. know yourself 3. identify options 4. gather information and data 5. evaluate options 6. select the best option 7. develop a plan of action and follow through. This is similar to the GREAT decision making model which said to 1. Give thought to the problem 2. Review the choices 3. Evaluate the consequences of each choice 4. Assess and choose the best choice 5. Think it over afterward. The seven step model and the GREAT model are similar because they both involve coming up with more than one choice and picking the one with the least consequences. These two models are different because the seven step model has more steps and has you develop a plan of action unlike the GREAT model.
The second decision making model i found was the nine step decision making model. The steps include 1. identify your objective 2. do a survey of your options 3. identify the values at stake 4. assess the importance of the decision 5. budget your time and energy 6. choose a decision making strategy 7. identify your options 8. evaluate your options 9. make your choice. This is similar to the GREAT model because in both models you have to asses which decision to make by identifying the consequences. The nine step model and GREAT model are different because again the nine step model has more steps and the nine step model has you budget your time and energy. The GREAT model doesn't have you budget time or energy.
I think the best decision making model to use is the first model that i found which is the seven step decision making model. All three models are perfectly capable of helping someone solve a problem but i think the seven step model would work better. The seven step decision making model would be the most effective because it gives a full detailed process to follow for making a good decision.
